Born in the northernmost reaches of Illsabard to a Garlean father and Eorzean mother, Carrick's family resided within the mountains that crowned the continent. House Makaio was a rather small noble house within the Garlean Empire that focused primarily on the development of magitek armor and weapons for the soldiers of the XIVth legion.He was raised within a fortress built into one of the many mountains he explored during his youth, training to become a Garlean Soldier to combat the 'Eorzean Savages' from a young age. In his early teens he underwent an experimental procedure, augmenting his body with a combination of Garlean and Allagan Magitek that would serve to make him an impressive weapon to be wielded by the Empire where he would earn the nickname of 'The Revenant' due to his seeming inability to be killed no matter the injuries he received.During the battle of Carteneau Flats, Carrick as a Primi Ordines, or Centurion, led a specialized unit of soldiers to the Alliance's back lines to attack and destroyer the field hospitals that were treating the Eorzean's wounded. It was during one of these attacks on a Twin Adder field hospital that Dalamud erupted, freeing the Elder Wyrm Bahamut. One of the falling pieces of debris from the artificial moon landed on the hospital Carrick's unit was fighting at, nearly killing him. Almost a year later he awoke in New Gridania with no memory of who he was.After a period of recuperation and learning to function as a normal adult again, Carrick would set off into Eorzea to explore what he thought to be the land he came from and to try and figure out who he once was. Nearly a decade later, he has recovered his memory and is now working to atone for the numerous innocent lives he took.
